Updates from Mr. Dietz
Hello Sundling Families,
It has been another busy summer of planning and preparation for the upcoming school year at Walter R. Sundling Junior High. The maintenance
crews have been working diligently to get our building ready for the start of school; cleaning classrooms, waxing floors, painting, and wrapping up minor work orders. Sundling administration and office staff have been working to finalize schedules, clean and organize our front office, attend trainings and workshops, and prepare for students to walk through the doors on the first day of school. I am happy to report that we are ready and eager to open the doors and welcome our incoming 7th grade students and returning 8th grade students to school on Wednesday, August 15th. It looks to be a great year of teaching and learning at Sundling!
As we gear up for teaching and learning to begin this school year, I am excited to report that each student, once again, will be provided with a Lenovo N23 Chromebook to use throughout the school year. This device will be used as a teaching tool in many of our classrooms and will enhance the learning experience for our students. The students will be able to take the device home each day and continue their learning outside of the classroom walls through ongoing communication and collaboration. If students have their Chromebooks at home for the summer, please be sure to have them charged and ready for the first day of school. For any students that turned the device in to school at the end of the year; or if you are new to our school, you will receive your Chromebook during the first days of school.
There are many new staff members joining us this school year, and I am pleased to have them as a part of the Paladin family. Please help me welcome
Virginia Hesse- Special Education Teacher
Lina Storti- 7th Grade History Teacher
Sean Clarke- 7th & 8th Grade Health Teacher
Alicia Olsen- 7th & 8th Grade Math Teacher
Jennifer Ratkovich- Office Clerical
Daniel Seymour- Program Assistant
Karla Manner- Program Assistant
Our teachers will continue to prepare and implement lessons with the student in mind and work with students to help them achieve personal growth and success at their level and beyond. I am pleased with our overall progression as a school over the years, and pleased that our teachers have utilized strategies and examples of “best practice” in their lesson planning and curriculum.
We will continue to focus our school improvement in all areas, but remain heavily focused on both math and literacy skills. We will also continue our partnership with the Museum of Science and Industry on implementing science standards throughout our curriculum and finding ways to incorporate STEM practices across all curriculum areas. I will keep you posted on our progress, successes, and challenges as we move throughout the 2018-19 school year. I am very excited for the opportunity to serve as the principal of Walter R. Sundling Junior High School for another school year, and look forward to working with all of our Sundling families. I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with our WRS PTA and District 15 Education Foundation to find ways to support all of the students at our school, but also to branch out and become “Partners in Learning” with the members in our school community. Communication and an “open door policy” are important to me as we work together to help your child be successful. If there is ever a question, concern, or feedback; please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that await all of us this school year. I remain impressed and excited with the overall commitment and involvement of the Sundling staff and our parent community; and the ability to work together to help promote growth and success in our students.
There are many great ways for your child to get involved, stay active, make connections, and have fun during their two years at Sundling Junior High.
Thank you for your continued support of our great school. On behalf of the Sundling Staff, we are looking forward to a great 2018-2019 school year.
