Letter From Principal

August 2014

Hello Sundling Families,

Welcome to the 2014-15 school year (Almost)!!  We are only a few weeks away from the start of another great year of teaching and learning at Sundling Junior High School. In an effort to limit the amount of paper in our annual summer mailing this year, I am sending some of our school information ahead of time through email. Be on the lookout sometime next week for our annual summer mailing which includes your child’s schedule. I have included some important dates, including important information/dates about our fall sports and activities, which will begin during the first days of school. There are many opportunities for your child to get involved during their junior high years, and I hope will they will take advantage of our many offerings throughout the year.

Some upcoming important dates:
Monday, August 18th- Students with Special Needs Walk-Through (9:00-10:30am)
Thursday, August 21- “Walk Your Schedule” (1:00-2:00pm)
Monday, August 25th- 1st Day of School (7:50am-2:30pm)

Some important notes about the first few days:

* Please note that it is not required that students bring all of their school supplies on the first day of school (pens/pencils & notebook). Supplies can be brought to school throughout the first few days.

* All students will be asked to purchase a 2014-15 WRS Assignment Notebook for $5.00 during the first days of school. Cash or checks are welcome. Please make checks out to CCSD #15.

* For all of our incoming 7th graders and new students, the cost of a PE uniform (shorts and shirt) was included in registration fees. PE uniforms will be distributed to students in PE class during the first weeks of school. If anyone would like to purchase a new or additional PE uniform, the cost is $9.00. Cash or checks are welcome. This fee can be paid in our main office at any time.

*Please be reminded that if a student wishes to participate (this includes tryouts) in a school sport, they will need to have a current physical on file in the nurses office. Your child needs a physical exam that is less than one year old and it needs to be written on the Illinois State Form.  Students will not be allowed to tryout or participate if a current physical is not on file at school.

New this school year!! District 15 approved to pilot an interscholastic junior high soccer program this year (Boys-Fall and Girls-Spring).   This is a cut sport that will include 18 players on a team (9-7th grade players and 9-8th grade players). The season will include 6 games and a district tournament. WRS practices and Home Games will be held at Hamilton Park- Field #1. Activity buses will be available after practices. Students will need to be picked up after the completion of games.
